Situado en el jardín del Hotel ‘Bella Vista Sakaigahama’ en Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japón, la capilla hace que la mayoría de sus vistas naturales de los alrededores. Destellos del cielo, el océano, las montañas y las islas distantes aparecen y desaparecen a lo largo de los dos caminos. Pueden verse también desde el espacio interior – el altar de la capilla, se enfrentan los 80 asientos en frente de un árbol simbólico. El cielo, el sol y el agua forman un fondo para el altar.


Su diseño simboliza la unión de los novios, ya que permite que cada uno suba por una espiral diferente para encontrarse finalmente en el extremo superior, donde se celebra la ceremonia de boda, mientras se disfruta de las maravillosas vistas del mar interior de Seto.


El concepto arquitectónico se desarrolla alrededor de las dos espirales que forman una cinta continua – la función principal del proyecto. Su función simbólica se duplica por el funcional uno – se apoyan el uno al otro, formando una estructura independiente. También llevan a cabo la función de elementos arquitectónicos convencionales, tales como paredes o techos, creando así el espacio de núcleo – la capilla de bodas.


El sistema estructural fue desarrollado en colaboración con Ikuhide Shibata de Arup. Las espirales se apoyan mutuamente forman una estructura estable, conteniendo las vibraciones horizontales y verticales, trabajando como un aro en tres dimensiones. La espiral interior está conectado a los postes de acero intermedio sólido, teniendo las cargas verticales, mientras que la espiral exterior se acopla como un voladizo. Los materiales fueron elegidos para aligerar la estructura, trabajando en torno a sus tensiones y vibraciones, o soportar las condiciones climáticas – aleación de zinc y paneles de madera, un dispositivo de aislamiento de la base de péndulo para iluminar edificios, o paneles de vidrio depositados en el punto de acristalamiento de puntos brazos (DPG) , moviéndose libremente durante par producido por fuerzas horizontales.
