La extensión de la Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), ahora llamado el Lee-Chin Crystal Michael, está situado en una de las intersecciones más importantes en el centro de centro de Toronto. Es el museo más grande de Canadá y atrae a más de un millón de visitantes al año.

Su nuevo nombre se deriva de cinco volúmenes con revestimiento metálico de intersección de la construcción, que son una reminiscencia de los cristales-inspirados en las formas cristalinas en las galerías de mineralogía de la ROM. Libeskind ha creado una estructura de enclavamiento orgánicamente formas prismáticas que dan vuelta a esta importante esquina de Toronto, y todo el complejo del museo, en un faro luminoso.

Con la expansión, una nueva entrada de grupo en Parque de la Reina fue creado donde los visitantes entran en un espectacular atrio en el que los dos temas del museo, naturaleza y cultura, están claramente evocados a través de escaleras entrelazadas que conducen a las exposiciones anteriores.

Toda la planta baja se unifica en un espacio sin fisuras con la claridad de la circulación y la transparencia. El Crystal transforma el carácter de fortaleza de la ROM, convirtiéndolo en un ambiente inspirado dedicada al resurgimiento del Museo como centro dinámico de Toronto.

El diseño tiene éxito en invitar a vislumbrar hacia arriba, abajo, en galerías e incluso desde la calle. El gran atrio de entrada, la Corte Chen jacinto Gloria, separa el antiguo edificio histórico de la nueva, proporcionando una visión casi completa de las fachadas restauradas de los edificios históricos. La Corte Chen también sirve como un espacio de lugar de celebración de todo tipo de eventos públicos.

Inaugurado en junio de 2007, la extensión ofrece 100.000 pies cuadrados de nuevo espacio de exposición, una nueva entrada y el vestíbulo, una tienda de venta al por menor nivel de la calle y tres nuevos restaurantes. Studio Daniel Libeskind también renovó diez galerías en el edificio histórico existente como parte del proyecto.
